Student Matinees


The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts offers a unique cultural experience to teachers, students and home school families throughout Hampton Road through their Student Matinee Series. These weekday morning matinees are chosen with the area’s students in mind, providing many students with their first experience in a world-class performing arts venue. The Sandler Center offers these performances at a special reduced rate for educators, providing a fun learning experience to enhance the  Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL’s). This season, enter into the world of scientific research with CSI: Live!, or jump into the pages of your favorite children’s tale with Strega Nona and Harold and the Purple Crayon.

Pricing for all student matinees:
$10 per student/$20 per adult;
*1 free chaperone ticket per 10 students reserved

Harold and the Purple Crayon

Based on the delightful picture books by Crockett Johnson,
Harold and the Purple Crayon
follows the zany adventures of an inventive young boy. Harold creates the world he wants to explore, using nothing more than a big purple crayon and his sky’s the limit imagination. With charming actors, life-size puppets, masks, magic, and music, this production will delight and amaze anyone young or young at heart!

CSI: Live!

Mad Science presents CSI: LIVE!, an exciting, interactive journey through the fascinating world of crime scene investigations. When a crime is committed at the premiere of a Las Vegas Magic Show, CSI investigators spring into action. And with the help of a room full of audience recruits, they will use their superior logic and forensic know-how to investigate the evidence and solve the crime!

The town faces real problems when a local lug named Big Anthony sneaks a peek at Strega Nona's magic book and uses Strega Nona's magical ways for selfish means, and it’s up to Strega Nona to save the day!
